Announcing an Executive-Level Seminar
Strategies and Best Practices on Global Issues of Gender, Migration, HIV & AIDS and Human Development

in Nanjing and Shanghai, China, March 25 – 30, 2012

Conducted in English (without translation) by American and Chinese resource persons

Purpose

This 6-day interactive seminar will provide senior and executive-level leaders and managers from Africa, Asia & Pacific, and beyond with a portfolio of global and country-specific best practices and strategies based on successful programs and initiatives that address global issues related to gender, migration, HIV & AIDS and human development. The seminar will also provide these participant leaders with the practical opportunities, group process techniques, and problem-solving coaching in small working groups to share successes and continuing challenges and to then develop lessons learned, next steps, and solutions related to their chosen priority issues.

Highlights of the 6-day seminar include:

• Learn from subject matter experts who will present during the seminar.
• See best practices in action via program site visits in China.
• Participate in issue-based working groups on strategies for policy & program development.
• Learn from and communicate with GHA facilitators who have more than 25 years of leadership training and facilitation experience with global health and development issues & programs.
• Share lessons learned & best practices for greater South to South cooperation.
• Network with executive-level leaders from other countries.
• Leave the seminar with a written planning process.

During the issue-based working groups, selected participants will have the opportunity to give a short presentation on a best practice of their organization. Please see registration form “Section 3, Personal Statement” for how to apply to be a presenter.


Training Methodologies and Working Techniques

The seminar, like all of Global Health Action's educational programs and trainings, will emphasize practical and experiential learning and will include:

• Issue-specific class presentations by experts, small group discussions & problem-solving, and peer-to-peer learning
• An emphasis on case studies, analyses of actual best practices, and coaching
• Project site visits to experience and learn from on-the-ground successful programs in China
• Opportunities to explore chosen issues of concern in depth through targeted small group work with support from an experienced facilitator

Graduates will receive a joint certificate from Global Health Action and Nanjing International Training Center.

About Global Health Action (GHA), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

GHA is a non-profit, U.S.-based, international health and development organization with more than 35 years of experience providing education, training, and practical programs in leadership, management, and health promotion. GHA is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Since 1972, GHA has trained thousands of health professionals and community leaders from 97 countries around the world to lead effective programs.

Based on requests and feedback from key global health leaders, GHA and NITC are conducting this international seminar in China to provide an opportunity for participants from Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and other parts of the world to share country experiences from different continents in order to strengthen South-South collaboration for the implementation of effective HIV & AIDS, reproductive health, and population issue-related programs.

About Nanjing International Training Center for Population Program (NITC), Nanjing, China

NITC is an independent training institution directly affiliated with the National Population and Family Planning Commission (NPFPC). It strengthens international and south-south collaboration in RH/FP and population program, to maximize the sharing of country experiences. NITC offers specialized training programs in strategic management and leadership, project and program management, demographic studies and RH/FP development. It is now the "South-South Cooperation Project" China Base designated by UNFPA Beijing and the "Global Leadership
Program" training base designated by South-South Partners in Population and Development.

Cost and Payments

The seminar fee is US$630 per person, including the training manual, all handouts, seminar proceedings, educational tools, plus transportation to and from the arrival airport in Nanjing and the departure airport in Shanghai, and to local program site visits and sightseeing arranged by NITC. Group food & lodging costs are US$80 per person per day for 7 days (US$560). Participants are responsible for their own arrangements and costs for international travel, visas, and incidentals. NITC will provide letters of invitation for visa applications. The total cost for each participant is US$1,190.
