For 2009, Global Health Action is offering an international course in China to provide an opportunity for participants from Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and other parts of the world to share country experiences from different continents in order to strengthen South-South collaboration for the implementation of effective HIV/AIDS and reproductive health programs.

About Nanjing Population Program Training Center International (NPPTCI), China
NPPTCI provides consultancy services to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and skills with the aim of supporting sustainable development in Asia. It has a full-service training center including accommodations (3 star hotel), food service, computer center, and internet access.

Course Facilitators
Global Health Action’s facilitators are professionals with extensive field experience in international health, community-based health, social sciences, and collaborative partnerships.

Purpose
This 10-day course provides senior to mid-level leaders and managers who are responsible for HIV/AIDS and reproductive health program development and management with governmental and non-governmental organizations, with the necessary skills to help them design, manage, and evaluate successful evidence-based HIV/AIDS and reproductive health programs.

Objectives
At the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Employ effective leadership, management, and communication skills
  • Plan, organize, and conduct needs assessments and strategic planning
  • Use international best practice lessons to guide program design and management
  • Develop and carry out sound approaches to program monitoring and evaluation
  • Develop and implement an action plan for a community-based or population-based reproductive health and/or HIV/AIDS project

Training Methodologies and Working Techniques
This course – and all of Global Health Action’s trainings – emphasizes practical and experiential learning and includes:

  • Class presentations, small group discussions, and peer-to-peer learning
  • An emphasis on case studies, simulation practice, role-playing, and coaching
  • Site visits to experience and learn from on-the-ground programs in China
  • Built-in opportunities for networking and future collaboration
  • On-going email forum

Graduates will receive a joint certificate from Global Health Action and Nanjing Population Program Training Center International.

The Global Health Action Network
In addition to the knowledge, skills, and practice gained during the course; and the take-away manual, handouts, and other resources that are included, each course graduate also becomes part of the Global Health Action Network and is invited to become active in GHA’s online discussion group.

Cost and Payments
The total cost of this course is US$1,920 per person, which includes: tuition and fees, the training manual, all handouts and educational tools, food and lodging, morning and afternoon snack breaks, transportation to and from the airport in Nanjing, as well as local site visits and sightseeing arranged by the NPPTCI.

Participants are responsible for their own arrangements and costs for international travel, visas, and incidentals.
